Currently Ukrainian insurance companies are\u00a0actively insuring winter crops. Contracts are signed mainly for wintering period until spring. In Western Ukraine experts visited fields of potential clients. At some fields canola is overgrown and such crop has minimal chances to survive winter. The plants with blooming flowers will not be able to withstand winter low temperatures so the insurers refused to accept some fields for insurance. This proves that insurance companies in Ukraine should conduct fields survey to preserve good insurance portfolio on winter crops.”]<\/p>\n

Taking look back to the weather conditions and its impact on a crop development during the summer 2012, there is yield and production potential variation observed at different regions of Ukraine.\u00a0 The level of risk to have an impact of a drought on the summer crops yield and production potential was increasing from North-West to South-East of Ukraine. Accordingly, the map at pick of vegetation for summer crops shows a good yield potential at the oblasts where rainfalls were received, and fair\/poor conditions over oblasts with lack of precipitations.<\/p>\n

International Practice of Agricultural Insurance Market Supervision and Licensing<\/h2>\n

In the practice of the insurance market supervision in EU and CIS countries, the agricultural insurance is usually practiced under the property insurance license. However, in this case it\u2019s impossible for the insurance market supervisor to receive data concerning agricultural insurance separately, as reporting is applied to this type of insurance doesn\u2019t provide the separation of the indicators by kinds and types of the insured property. This is usually the main reason why official statistics on agricultural insurance is absent. Moreover, the staff of the insurance regulator doesn\u2019t have an opportunity to check the quality of underwriting and loss adjustment on the agricultural insurance contracts separately.<\/p>\n
